So Good I Wish I'd Said It Myself

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
You cannot build character & courage by destroying men's initiative & independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

Amen and AMEN!

It's the 'give a man a fish' v. 'teach a man to fish' principle at work.

There are definitely people who need a hand-up, but too many people are satisfied with only the hand-out.

Being in HR for many years (and you can probably attest to this as well, Ames) - - I could write a very long blog of my own about my personal witness to much fraud, waste, and abuse of 'govt. systems, initiatives, and assistance' that is taken advantage of time and again, time after time. It's shocking. It's appalling. It's far too often 'purposeful.'

Many people (not all, mind you) know exactly how to 'work the system' and aren't even ashamed to say so. It can be a bragging right to some people.

I wish government officials would consider the stories of HR professionals and social/case workers, etc. before enacting overarching "enhancements" to the very, very flawed social systems in place today.

I support assisting those in TRUE need and empowering them to better themselves, their lives, and their families - - but the abuses I have witnessed year after year have left a very sour taste in my mouth, indeed.

It feels like a whole 'nother story when you personally see it for yourself.
